This course is run by Chris who is passionate about green wood bowls turned using a pole lathe.Chris first learnt this ancient craft several years ago after he and his son attended a bowl turning course at Bodgers Barn in Dorset run by Mace Bryant.
Gordon learning the ancient craft of bowl turning out in the 2017 Oct sunshine
at Surrey Hills Green Wood Works.
The wood being turned is a beautiful piece of freshly cut Ash kindly donated by the magnificient Painshill Park Cobham Surrey.
Gordon says: "Thanks for all your tutoring Chris, I had a great couple of days learning the craft in a perfect setting, very jealous! Hopefully one day when I've made my own pole lathe I can be turning bowls in a similar environment".
Here he is again, working hard on shaping the inside of the bowl.
It's looking really good Gordon, and the first of many once
you get the lathe made. Hopefully, see you on the "Make a Pole Lathe
course" next year.
A beautiful example of an Ash bowl made by Chris which now resides in Michigan USA.
Notice the lovely colours and markings.
